An extra early variety, which has shown its value by its early season of ripening, productiveness and vigor of plant; it is admirably adapted for planting at the South. CAPS. Earlinrt. Strong, stocky grower, with an abundance of stout, heavy spines; very hardy; fruit of large size, jet black and of good quality, commencing to ripen early and continues till stopped / by freezing in the autumn. (Jreife. The leading late Black Cap and a popular market sort; canes of strong, vigorous growth and, under good culture, very productive; berries are large, covered with heavy bloom, firm meaty and of fine flavor; it requires a good strong soil to produce the best results; it is not en- tirely hardy, but suffers during unusually severe winters; it is by far the best late Black Cap \ and the largest of any. Hopkins. Resembles somewhat, in fruit and cane, the old Mammoth Cluster, but an improvement upon it; canes very vigorous, healthy and productive; one of the best early Black Caps and worthy of a ]>lace in all collections. It is grown more extensively for the market in Western and Southern and Eastern Kansas than any other varietj'. Johnston's Sweet. Its habits are superior to Souhegan, ripens about the same time, but bush more upright in growth; entirely hard}', very productive, berry nearly as large as Gregg, perfectly black, quite firm, holds its well in handling and shipping; in quality sweeter and more delicious than anything else in the Black Cap line;
