Hubbs of the Scripps Instituticn of Oceanography as Angu//;a rosirato 'Le Sueurj, The second was captured at a State-operated fish salvage facility on January 24, 1969 and was subsequently identified by Mr. W. I. FoUett, Curator of Fishes for the California Academy of Sciences, as Anguiila anguilla 'Linnaeus). SPECIMENS TAKEN Anguilla anguilla (Linnaeus) On January 24, 1969, a European eel, Anguilla anguilla (Linnaeus), was collected during routine fish salvage operations at the State's Delta Fish Protective Facilitj^ near B}-ron, Contra Costa County, Cali- fornia. This Facility is a louver fish screen located on an extension of Italian Slough, a natural deadend tidal reach. This slough connects directly with Old Eiver and thence with the San Joaquin Eiver. which flows westward to the Pacific Ocean. The capture site is approximately 65 airline miles east of San Francisco. The fish, an adult female that initially measured 925 mm in total length, was captured at about 1900 hours at an ambient water tempera- ture of approximately 11 C.
