A fair supply of cattleyas and other orchids was on hand. There was a good sale of such pot plants as chrysanthemums, cyclamens, begonias, solanums, ferns and Erica melanthera. The Market. Owing to the continued dark weather since Thanksgiving, flowers are short- ening up materially. Boses practically retain holiday prices. Carnations make $6 and $8 and there is little recession in other flowers. Many chrysanthe- mums still come in, but single-stemmed stock is poor and most of the offerings are pompons and singles. As carnations and roses are both in short supply and mums practically finished, a strong market seems certain for some weeks ahead. Among the Betallers. At the store of Henry E. Comley, on Park street, are always to be found some varieties of plants not procurable at other stores. Among interesting ones noted this week were Sanchezia nobilis, Pilea muscosa, or artillery plant, sem- pervivums, saxifragas, Kalanchce Man- daiana, anthericums, selaginellas, pani- cums and philodendrons. Mr. Comley looks for some decline in the florists' trade as a result of existing conditions. At John J. O 'Brien 's large and finely arranged store, at the corner of Charles and Beacon streets, a handsome lot of evergreens in tubs is arranged on the sidewalks and these find a ready sale. Cyclamens and bronze chrysanthemums sell specially well among flowering plants. In cut flowers I noted fine lots of orchids, gardenias and bouvardias in
