Maqbool Fida Hussain was born in 1915 into a Muslim Bohra family. A self taught, he started painting film posters before getting into and becoming a very successful modern artist. He was a founder member of Progressive Artists Group, held many solo shows of his paintings in India and abroad, was awarded Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India in 1991. His First experimental film titled Through the Eyes of a Painter won Golden Bear at Berlin Film Festival in 1967. He died in London in June 2011 aged 95 years.
