ISLAND OF EIGG, SCOTLAND - 1st NOVEMBER 2007: John Booth, a director of the Eigg Heritage Trust and Eigg Electric Ltd, tops up battery levels with distilled water. These sophisticated batteries are vital part of the island's new electricity grid as all the renewable energy from the island's wind turbines, hydro and solar cells will be fed through them before being distributed. When fully charged the batteries will be able to power the island on their own for 24 hours. In addition to the renewables there are two 80 KW diesel generators as backup for the system.
