The opening of the Famous Barr de- partment store, September 15, made a busy day for the local florists, keeping many of them working late into Sun- day night to be ready for early Mon- day morning delivery. The wholesalers, too, cleaned up a lot of surplus stock. The Mullanphy Floral Co. will open a downtown branch, early in October, at the southwest corner of Seventh and Locust streets. The new Famous Barr department store is just across the way, which makes the location a most excellent one. John Young, son of W. C. Young, of the C. Young & Sons Co., surprised his friends last week when he and Miss Hazel Lanigan were quietly married. The young couple received many con- gratulations. Otto Bruenig, of H. G. Berning's, spent a few days in Chicago last week looking over the wholesale market. The members of the Ketail Florists' Association were the guests of Theo. Miller, September 15, when they held a meeting at his store, 5886 Delmar boule- vard. The attendance was quite large. Last w«ek put an end to the early closing of the wholesale houses.
