The principal offices and the terminus of the Road will bein this City, and there is every reason to believe that the work ofbuilding the line will be commenced at once and prosecuted vigor-ously until completed to Durham, N, C, where it will connect withthe Durham & Roxborough Railroad, thus bringing within our reachthe fertile bottom lands of the Roanoke River, as well as the fine ITS PEOPLE AND ITS TRADE. 135. Novvlin, J. , John W. Clay, Robert W. Withers, H. A. Edmondson,Joseph Stebbins and Robert W. Watkins. New lines of railway, and extensions of existing ones, are multi-plying on all sides with astonishing rapidity, and especially is this thecase with the roads which intersect at this point, and their immediateconnections. The vast mineral wealth lying to the westward of us,and which has of late years attracted so much attention, is, of course,responsible, to a great extent, for this activity in railroad construc-tion, which wdll probably continue until all the rich deposits of theneighbor
