An Islamic sword blade, Spain or Sicily, 12th - 13th century. Broad, strong, double-edged blade with fullers reaching almost to the point. There is a different Persian(?) inscription on each side at the base of the blade. On one side, (presumably) "Yusuf Bakr". The opposite side is hard to read (because of corrosion). Rectangular tang, with a flat round integral disk pommel, retaining the grip rivets. Total length cm. Extremely rare sword in virtually clean condition with a somewhat corroded point.
