Illustrations of the right knee joint seen from in front. On the right the joint has been opened and the patella with cut quadriceps muscle are reflected downward. On the left the joint is shown in flexion after removal of the capsule and the lateral ligaments. The surface of the femur and the patella is smooth and covered with hyaline cartilage.
