He was unexpectedly re-leased from the service, and returned toCopenhagen, and on April 28, 1860, theday after he got ashore, he was bap-tized by H. C. Jensen, and confirmedMay 6, 1860, by Elder A. Petersen. Ata conference held in Copenhagen, , 1860, he was called to the office of aPriest and shortly after set apart tolabor as a missionary on West was ordained an Elder Jan. 7, 1861,by Niels Wilhelmsen. Being called todo service in the navy, he was re-leased from his mission Feb. 25, 1861,and ordered to the naval ship HolgerDanske. His service, however, wasof short duration, for he was released. from further duty a month later. April26, 1861, he was again called into themissionary field, and appointed to pre-side over Thorslunde branch, on Sjael-land; he continued his labors withoutinterruption until February, 1862, whenhe was released, with permission toemigrate to Zion. Feb. 1, 1862, hemarried Hansine K. Jensen, who wasborn in Copenhagen July 27, 1838, andin whose family he had been a frequentvisitor during his misionary sailed from Hamburg, April 21,1862, on the ship Athenia, which ar-rived in New York June 6th. Thencethe journey was continued to Florence,Neb., from which point the trip acrossthe plains was commenced, in an ox-train that arrived in Salt Lake City in September following.
