Grey-headed kingfisher (Halcyon leucocephala) perching on the end of a branch. The grey-headed kingfisher is common to scrub and woodland and is often found near rivers or streams, however, unlike most other kingfishers, it is not aquatic. Grey-headed kingfishers have a wide distribution from the Cape Verde Islands off the north-west coast of Africa, to Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia; east to Ethiopia, Somalia and southern Arabia; and south to South Africa. Typical prey includes insects and small lizards. Photographed in Kenya in September.
