At the time ofThomislav there were held two councils at Spljet forthe whole of Dalmatia and Croatia. The legates ofthe Holy See, John, Bishop of Ancona and Leo, Bishopof Praeneste, were present. Pope John X wrote aletter to Thomislav, King of the Croats and all thepeople of Dalmatia. In this he reminded the king ofthe Anglo-Saxons, to whom Gregory I sent not onlyChristianity, but also culture and education. Thecouncil met in 925 to decide the question of the pri-macy of the Sees of Nin and Spljet; to re-establish rulesof discipline, to settle administrative questions arisingfrom disputes about the boundaries of dioceses, andfinally to show the reason for using the Old Croatian. Pope Leo VI decreed byhis Bull that the primate of Dalmatia and Croatiashould be the Archbishop of Spljet. All the decisionsof the councils were sent to Rome for See of Nin was suppressed in 928, when the See ofSpljet renounced the jurisdiction of the Patriarch ofConstantinople and submitted to the Holy See.
