HIKASK According to a recent report from I\I?Tajima Kanamaru, on the 23rd of October I despatched niy assistant Tokubei Kuroda to make explorations in the northern parts of Ise Province for a week, in Older to collect a peculiar snail. For details, see his diary of the journey on other pages. The new species is as Ganesella kanamarui Hir. Ganesella kanamarui Hir. n. sp. The shell quite depressed, conical with convex outline, sti'onrrlv angular at the periphery, openly and perspectivcly uml)ilicatc? surface glossy, light corneous, the periphery encircled by ?i narrow liglitcr colored band and a narrow light brown band just above. Whorls 5??slightly convex, slowly widening, suture rather deep, the first 1^4 glossy and the other sculptured with wavy coarse oblique growth wrinkles and dense microscopic spiral striae ? the last with a strong round carina at the periphery, concavely narrow margined above and below ? base convex, with a denser sculpture, indented near the umbilical porforation. The width of tlie umbilicus one sixth the total diameter of the shell, and with a very shallow sulcus encircling the entracc of the perforation and often ending an irrcgurnl wide excavation just behind the basal Up. The last whorl distinctly though shortly deflexed in front, constricted behind the lip. Aper- ture quite oblique, irretriihirly lunate-oval, Up narrowly expanded, peristome thin, with a white callous within, coluniellar and basal ???.
