It was statedthat these lines denote the number of years the late Komosonaand Kopekwin held office, a statement that requires Koyemshi are chosen annually alternately from the fraternitiesenumerated below. It will be remembered that the Great Father isdesignated at the winter-solstice ceremonial, he in turn choosing hisfellows. The clans given are not those of the men personating theKoyemshi, but the clans of their paternal parents. It makes nodifference to what clan each man who personates a Koyemshi belongs,but his father must be of the clan mentioned. The Newekwe (Galaxy),Showekwe (Arrow reed), Koshikwe (Cactus), and Make *hlannakwe((Treat fire) fraternities follow annually in regular succession.
