On the 19th of February 1862, he was appointed by the Secretary ofWar a commissary of subsistence, with the rank of captain. InJune 1862 he was ordered on duty on the staff of General Sigel atMartinsburg, Va. In September 1862, he was assigned as acting chiefcommissary of subsistence of the Twelfth Army Corps, GeneralMansfield commanding. In March 1863 he was assigned to 5th Corps Head-quarters, General George G. Meade commanding, as acting chief com-missary of the Corps, and on the 25th of September 1S64, was made. WILLIAM H.
