Plimsoll line and draft (draught) marks and on the side of a ship indicating how deep the ship is in the water.

The vertical line of numbers indicates the depth (in metres and point of a metre) at which the ship is lying in the water and the markings to the left of those numbers is the Plimsoll or loadline. This indicated the safe depth a ship may be loaded to with variations for different water densities.
