View SW over the remains of Cladh an Disirt to Iona Abbey & the Sound of Iona with Mull beyond. Burial-place of the Hermitage consisted of a small; rectangular C12th chapel within a walled enclosure, the entrance to which consisted of two upright stones (one still standing) topped by a stone lintel. Disirt (or Diseart) comes from the Latin for 'a desert': disertum meaning a place of Christian retreat.
