Illustration of a megatherium skeleton, from Louis Figuier's The World Before the Deluge, 1867 American edition. This skeleton was found in Paraguay in 1788, and was displayed in the Museum of Natural History in Madrid, Spain. The deeply shaded bones are missing. Megatherium was between 12 and 13 feet in length, and 5 or 6 feet high.
