Ecstasy. Computer artwork of a molecule of the drug ecstasy (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, formula: )). The atoms are shown as cylinders, and are colour-coded: carbon (blue), hydrogen (red), nitrogen (yellow) and oxygen (cyan). Ecstasy drugs produce elation and an easy intoxication. Adverse effects include dehydration and difficulty focusing. Ecstasy is a drug of the 1990's. Studies suggest that prolonged heavy use can cause brain damage, and some deaths have occurred. Many of the deaths occurred because individuals drank too much water over- compensating the dehydration.
