An old engraving of The Falls Bridge, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. It is from a Victorian mechanical engineering book of the 1880s. It spans the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park. The 556-foot-long (169 m) bridge has stonemasonry abutments and piers, with three Pratt-type pin-connected trusses. It was built in 1894–1895 under the direction of George Smedley Webster and James H Windrim of Philadelphia’s Department of Public Works. The bridge was designed as a double-decker bridge, but the upper deck was never built for lack of funds.
