The three Renaissance-style palaces: are Palazzo Soranzo Pisani, Palazzo Tiepoletto Passi and Palazzo Pisani Moretta on the banks of the Grand Canal in Venice in the Veneto region of northern Italy. The three palaces were owned by the noble Venetian Bembo family. One of the family members was Giovanni Bembo, who became the 92 Doge of Venice from 1615 until he died in 1618. The palaces soon became the residence of the noble Pisani family who renovated, modified and extended the palaces over the following centuries, finally taking on its current design in the 18th century. Its past guests list to the palace included important historical figures such as Tsar Paul I of Russia, Joséphine de Beauharnais and Joseph II, Holy Roman Emperor. Palazzo Pisani Moretta remained in the Pisani family until it died out in 1880 but the building is still owned privately. It hosts the annual masquerade ball Ballo del Doge, held during the Carnival period. There are approximately 170 Palazzos (palaces) in Venice whereas Rome, Florence and Milan, each have no more than 8 Palazzos
