Gymnopilus junonius is a species of mushroom in the family Cortinariaceae. Commonly known as Laughing Gym, Laughing Cap, Laughing Jim, or the spectacular rustgill, this large orange mushroom is typically found growing on tree stumps, logs, or tree bases. Some subspecies of this mushroom contain the neurotoxic oligoisoprenoid gymnopilin. This specimen photographed in New Zealand, where Gymnopilus junonius was introduced. This mushroom is found growing in dense clusters on stumps and logs of both hardwoods and conifers. Gymnopilus junonius has psychoactive properties. ?Credit: BSpragg
