Satellite image of storm Kirk in the eastern Atlantic Ocean on the 6th October 2024. Kirk formed off Cape Verde at the end of September, strengthening to a hurricane on the 1st October and reaching its peak as a category 4 hurricane on the 4th October. It then moved north, over colder waters, causing it to weaken. It became an extratropical storm on the morning of the 7th October as it headed towards Western Europe. Image obtained by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor on NASA's Terra satellite.
