Knud rasmussen (1879-1933). Historical image of the Greenlandic polar explorer and anthropologist Knud Johan Victor Rasmussen. Rasmussen was the first person to cross the notorious Northwest Passage via dog sled. He organised the seven Thule Expeditions, which set out to explore and map Greenland and Northern Canada, and study the native Inuit (Eskimo) people. Rasmussen's 'greatest achievement' was the 5th Thule Expedition, which was designed to \attack the great primary problem of the origin of the Eskimo race\". He published a ten volume account of all the ethnographic, archaeological an biological data collected on this journey."
