Post-operative haematoma in the groin of a 70- year-old man following surgery to repair a hernia. A haematoma is an accumulation of clotted blood caused by internal bleeding or bruising. It has resulted in the scrotum becoming swollen and dark in colour. Treatment is aimed at stopping the bleeding and then reducing the swelling. Large painful haematomas may be surgically drained, but most clear naturally within a few days. A hernia is the protrusion of tissue through an abnormal opening, in this case abdominal organs, usually the intestines, were protruding from the abdominal cavity.
