It is now more than twenty years that I have made a study of the cultivation of As- ters — during that time I have grown, both for the mar- ket and exhibi- tion purposes, all classes and varieties, as well as all novelties in this flower introduced from time to time both by for- eign and American seedsmen — and every season my opinion has strengthened that three classes of asters practically include the cream of the list; these three asters are Truffaut'sPaeony- Flowered Perfection, the Victoria, and the Imbricated Pompon. Truffaut's Pseony-Flowered Perfection and the "Vic- toria are both large asters; the petals of the former incurving to the centre, the petals of the lat- ter recurving to the edge (see illustration). Imbri- cated Pompon Asters have small flowers about the size of a half-dollar. No garden is complete without its bed of asters, and if some of each variety above noted is planted, I feel sure your asters cannot be anything but a grand success. Through my long acquaintance with the growers of aster seed all over the world, together with my own experience; I cannot but feel that my strains of seed of these flowers will compare most favorably with any to be obtained. I am not offering you novelties; on the contrary, these flowers are old garden favor- ites, that with years of care and study have been grown to perfection.
