This GE D8-40CW locomotive engine was acquired by Norfolk Southern Railway during the merger/acquisition time from 1997 to 1999. As a result the railroad number badge was re-numbered to NS 8464 for Norfolk Southern's lineage. As of 2008 this engine has been repainted in the black, white, and yellow Norfolk Southern Horsehead paint scheme.
