Swazey represented histor-ically and medically the homoeopathic practice in Hampdencounty during his professional life in Springfield. There mayhave been an earlier homoeopath here, but the practice only gotcharacter and success from him. He was a thoroughly honestand conscientious man. persevering, faithful, studious and ( 382 ). His life amongus was long, honorable and successful. He commanded publicrespect while living, he justly received its tributes, dead. He was born at p]xeter, N. II., in 1812; and entered Bow-doin college with the class of 3.). hut Ieiiioved to Dartmouth, andfinally returned to Bowdoin to graduate in Al. He began prac-tice as an allopath, being first settled in Xewburyport, butadopted the homoeopathic system as eai-ly as 1840 and continuedin it ever afterward. He Iemoved to Springfield in 1844. Hestood high in his school of medicine, and received many honorsfrom his professional associates.
