This photo, which shows an Omaha woman, dates to 1914. The Omaha are a Native American people who around 1600 lived near the Ohio and Wasbash rivers. At the time the Omaha and Quapaw were a united people, but as the moved west, the Omaha settled in what is present-day northwestern Iowa; the Quapaw, in Arkansas. Today, the Omaha Indian Reservation is in western Iowa and northeastern Nebraska.
