'The Far-famed Seagirt Torii of Miyajima. Quaint Gateway to the Famous Shinto Shrine, Japan', 1905. The Torii Gate, built in 1168, is one of Japan's most popular tourist attractions. The gate, which is 54 feet tall, is dedicated to the Shinto god of seas and storms, and brother of the sun goddess Amaterasu.
