Oldest living human. View of Jeanne Calment, a Frenchwoman who, in 1994, is the oldest human aged 119. She is a subject of Project Chronos, a study on human aging at the Centre d'Etude du Polymorph- isme Humain (CEPH) in Paris. Project Chronos involves mapping the genes of people who have reached extreme old age (centenarians aged over 100, twins over 90 years old), to understand the genetic process of aging. Project Chronos has dis- covered genes linked to human aging. Human genes are also responsible for genetic diseases which shorten lifespan. Research on aging may offer gene therapies to improve old age and prolong life.
