The female differs from the male in having the antenna?somewhat shorter, the head less narrowed behind, the eyesless prominent, and the thorax a little broader; it was de-scribed at first by Chaudoir as another species; the differencesare not striking. Length 17-18 millim. Nepal; Sikkim: Pedong, Mungphu; Assam,. Fig. 113.—Neocollyris saphyrina. S 258 CICINDELIDiE. 31. Neocollyris insignis, Chaud. Collyris insignis, Chaudoir, Rev. Mag. Zool. 1864, p. 76; id., Ent. France, 1864, p. 496, pi. 7, fig. 4. Very closely allied to N. saphyrina, buton the average larger, with the head alittle less quadrate in the male (in thefemale the difference is not marked), thepronotum slightly narrower and more elon-gate, and distinctly less constricted at thebase, the basal angles being considerablymore in a line with the sides than inJST. saphyrina ; the sculpture of the elytrais stronger, and the central plicae are largerand more marked ; in some specimens thereare distinct traces of rugose striae on theupper surface of the pronotum, but inothers the upper surface is quite smoothas in the specimens of N. saphyrina whichI have seen; this is apparently a variablecharacter in this group, for Chaudoir, indescribing N. saphyrina, says :
