An ornate pinnacled Gothic open gallery runs around the octagonal drum which supports the elliptical dome spanning the crossing of the Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta on the Campo dei Miracoli at Pisa, Tuscany, Italy. The dome, which was decorated in around 1380, is now thought to have been built 1090 - 1100, not long after the cathedral’s foundation in 1064.

Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta (Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption), Pisa, Tuscany, Italy: open gallery which runs around the cathedral’s elliptical dome, designed by Busketo and decorated around 1380 by Piccio di Landuccio. Pisa cathedral was founded in 1064 and consecrated in 1118. It was built in Pisan Romanesque style in two stages, one by architect Busketo (or Buscheto), who created the original layout, and one by Rainaldo, who extended the building and the façade. The building was not finally completed until the late 1300s, with Gothic additions.
