In 1856 he embarkedin the grocery business and still contin-ues it. His first office was overseer of the poor, which he held four years, thenassessor two years, inspector of check-lists two years, alderman three years,member of the House in 1872 and 1873,member of the Constitutional conven-tion in 1889, overseer of the po jr in 1889and 1890, and elected to the Senate in1890. Always a Republican, attendsthe Congregational church, althoughbrought up in the Church of He married first, Mary E. Cayzer, anative of his own county in England, inJanuary. 1853. Of the three childrenof this marriage, but one lives, MaryElizabeth, who married Joseph Fradd,and lives in West Manchester. Hemarried second, in Sept., 1876, JennieMcDonald of Fort Covington, N. children. He is a member of theAegis, a benevolent society. HON. ALVAH W. SULLOWAY, Senator from the Laconia Distinct,No. 5. was born in Framingham, Mass.,Dec. 25, 1838. He is the only son andeldest child of Israel W. and Adeline(Richardson) Sulloway.
