Exterior of the Pompidou Centre in Paris, France - the Pompidou Square side 26r

The Pompidou Centre is a radical culture, arts and entertainment centre in the Beaubourg area of the 4th Arrondissement of Paris, France. Opened in 1977, the building was a leading and controversial example of radical Bowellism architecture, in which the services for the building, such as ducts and lifts, are located on the exterior to maximise space in the interior. But now the 'Shock of the New' of this distinctive building has dissipated. The side shown here, facing Place George Pompidou, is rather drab and understated. The reverse is a riot of garish color.
