The term "Focara" is used in Salento to indicate a large pile of bundles that is built and lit on the occasion of the liturgical feast dedicated to Saint Anthony the Abbot, the saint of fire. In the days of the construction of the Novoli focara, dozens of young volunteers meet who, under the careful supervision of the older masters, build the huge pyre of fagots with a fairly unique technique. The devotion to the saint is so strong that the works often take place even in very harsh climatic conditions. The focara is made up of at least 90,000 bundles, has a diameter of about 20 meters and can reach a height of about 25 meters.
