The "Ruined Arch" built in 1759-60 as a mock Roman ruin in Kew Gardens, drawn by Sir William Chambers (1723-1796), a Scottish-Swedish architect, based in London. His best-known works are Somerset House and Kew Gardens, London England. Some of his Kew Garden buildings are lost, those remaining being the ten-storey Pagoda, the Orangery, the Ruined Arch, the Temple of Bellona and the Temple of Aeolus.
