A late 19th century illustration of L'Hospice de France South of Bagnères-de-Luchon in France in the Port (Pass) de Venasque, a mountain pass in the Pyrenees lying on the border between France and Spain. The pass has always been used for communications between Aragon and the Luchon valley, often by armies, from the Romans, to the armies of the Napoleonic Wars and anti-Franco guerrillas during the 1944 attempted invasion of Val d'Aran , as well as by traders and smugglers.
