MODEL RELEASED. Swollen lips of a 32 year old woman caused by angioedema (angioneurotic oedema). This is an allergic reaction characterised by the swelling of soft tissue in the lips, mouth, larynx and other areas. The most common cause is a sudden allergic reaction to certain foods, such as strawberries or seafood. Less common causes include drugs, insect bites and pollen. Angioedema can cause difficulty with breathing and potentially block the wind pipe. Treatment is with anti-inflammatory drugs and anti-histamines.
