CONTIN REINETTE.—Hort. Identification.—Hort. Trans, vol. vii., p. 339. Hort. Soc. Cat. ed. 3, n. 645. Fruit, medium sized; roundish, somewhat resembling the old Non- pareil. Skin, deep dull yellow on the shaded side, and fine red where exposed to the sun. Flesh, yellowish, firm, highly flavored, and plea- santly acid. A dessert apple of first-rate quality, peculiarly adapted for cultiva- tion in the northern districts of Scotland. It is in use during October and November. The tree is very hardy, an excellent and sure bearer, but a slender grower. It was raised by Sir George Stuart Mackenzie, Bart., of Coul, in Ros- shire, a gentleman who for a long series of years devoted his time and talents to the advancement of horticulture. 80.
