The Hindu-Gothick Dromana Gates, a folly gatehouse at the bridge over the Finisk River, Villierstown, Near Cappoquin, County Waterford, Ireland


The exotic Indo-Gothic Dromana Gate Lodge stands at the entrance to Villierstown, a small 18th century estate village in County Waterford. It was originally constructed by the villagers with papiér maché and canvas-covered timber, to welcome home their landlord, Henry Villiers-Stuart and his new bride following the wedding. Utterly enchanted, the couple decided to build a permanent Designed by Irish architect Martin Day in 1843, the entrance lodge on one side of the road bridge over the River Finnisk, has elements of Georgian design, minarets and a copper-clad onion dome, undoubtedly influenced by John Nash's Royal Pavilion in Brighton, England.
