Snout rounded, as long as eye, which is 3^ to 4 times in length of head; interorbital width 2^ to 3 times in length of head; mouth terminal, its width 3 to 4 times in length of head; lips feebly developed; barbels two on each side, posterior a little longer than anterior and as long as or slightly longer than eye. Brown above, silvery beneath ; a more or less distinct straight blackish band, often extending from the end of the snout, through the eye, to the caudal. Total length 100 millim.
