X.] DOUBLE-HANDLED CUPS. 593 I have succeeded in collecting about forty similar pitchers, with threehorns or breast-like bosses; most of them have all round the body a decora-tion of vertical concave incisions or impressions, and many have each of theprotuberances surrounded by three or four concentric circles of concavelines. The slight baking of these pitchers could not be better shownthan by the variety of colours we often see on one and the same pitcher,for it is of a dull blackish colour where it is but very slightly baked, paleyellow in places where it has been a little more exposed to the fire, andreddish or brown where it has been long in a great heat.
