LOCKED GREASE PLUG Where the screw plug type of grease plug is used—and thisform seems to be a favorite on a number of roads—difficultyhas been found in obtaining a suitable form of locking devicewhich will prevent the screw from backing out and not onlyremoving the pressure from the top of the grease, but alsodropping out and being lost. A form of plug which includesa locking device that will prevent this trouble is shown in theillustration. It consists of a brass body threaded on the bottomand screwed into the rod, and a wrought or cast iron hollowplug with a squared top and either a flat or hollow lower suitable hinged or pivoted pawl is provided and is held in. Grease Plug Fitted with a Locking Device place by a small coil spring. Ihe iron plug is slotted on theside from the top of the threads to within yi inch of the bottomof the plug, and the pawl is arranged with a lip which engagesthis slot when it is in the locked position. It will be seen thatthere is a small shoulder on the body back of the pawl. This isprovided to allow the pawl to be held in an unlocked positionwhen the plug is being removed. When locked there is no meansb) which the screw can back out, although it can be turned downwithout disengaging the pawl or giving any attention to this plug has been patented by O. X.
