The Britannia Bridge was built to enable a rail crossing 100 ft above the Menai Strait,The Bridge was designed by Robert Stephenson using a revolutionary tubular construction and completed in March 1840, The bridge continued in use until 1970 when two boys accidentally set fire to it causing major damage. The bridge was re designed to carry the A55 Express Road above the railway using the original towers in 1980,
