With a recent appearance on Channel Five television in Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out, the Dorset charity attraction Wimborne Model Town is opening the gates to its 70th anniversary season on Saturday 2nd April at 10am. Volunteers have been working hard throughout the winter not only refurbishing the 1/10th size models of Wimborne in the 1950s, but also producing a smaller 100th scale model of the miniature buildings. “The Model Town is marking seven decades of family fun with the position of the new mini town reflecting our original life size location back in 1952. Work is progressing well, and of course the new model will have its own tiny model in 1000th scale,” commented manager Nick Clark. With a larger 9 hole Crazy Golf layout and a refurbished home for the Wareham Bears, work has continued through the winter on the charity’s other indoor facilities including the Life Before Lego exhibition and digital model railway. The grand opening conducted by Sir William and Lady Ali Hanham was a noisy affair with Wimborne’s Militia and Chris Brown, the Town Crier, also in attendance.
