The suggestionseemed almost to be that someone would recognise the miscreant byhis finger-print, the value of which kind of evidence had begun thendimly to dawn upon the official mind. The imprint supposed to bea bloody finger-print—if correctly reproduced—seemed to my poorjudgment to be a smear from some kind of twilled or ribbed fabric,like the sleeve of a coat.
