'Arcady: (en Arcadie)', 1923. 'A Melody Fox-Trot; Al Jolson's big hit in "Bombo"; words & music by Al Jolson and B. G. De Sylva; "You can't do wrong with any FEIST song"'. Jolson, the 'king of blackface performers', popularised traditional African-American music for white audiences unwilling to listen to it when performed by black artists. From a collection of sheet music, some examples of which depict African Americans in a derogatory way. Other examples are songs by white musicians purporting to be black.
