Ripe (black) and semi-ripe (orange) fruit of a dwarf species of wild date palm from the forests of Peninsular India. This species called Phoenix humilis normally does not grow more than 7’ tall and very often does not even show its stem. The black fruit are edible and have a pleasant flavor but hardly any flesh.
