Bailey, youngest son of Eber W. Baileyand Elizabeth Powers Bailey, was born in Wor-cester, Mass., Feb. 13, 1818. The other membersof the family were Eber O., Adeline E., StephenP., Mary A., and Sophronia R. The family re-mained here until young Bailey was six years ofage, when they removed to Greenwich, Mass. Theeducation of the subject of this sketch was obtainedat the common schools, but, being diligent in hisstudies, he secured a fund of knowledge that wellqualified him for his subsequent successful careeras an active business-man. The early part of his life was spent at agricultural pursuits in con-nection with lumbering.
